How to Keep Red Hair from Fading

How to Keep Red Hair From Fading

“Once in his life, every man is entitled to fall madly in love with a gorgeous redhead.”- Lucille Ball

Nothing could make a redhead more fiery than perhaps a fading color job. Alas, unless you are a natural redhead, your hair is never going to be as vibrant as it is the day you step out of the hair salon. The good news is the following tips will help you maintain as much intensity as possible in between visits. (So simmer down.)

Use a Color Shampoo

Custom blended shampoos and conditionerss can help keep your color bright. Ask your colorist to formulate a special blend that you can use at home and be sure to cut back on daily shampooing. Every other day is best. Dry-shampoos can also be used. If you aren’t using a color enhancing cleanser, opt for a color-safe formula.

Cut Back on Heated Styling Tools

You really can’t take the heat, so ditch the blow dryers and curling irons. Heat will strip your color and increase the overall fading. Instead, air dry your locks and opt for natural waves if you’ve got ‘em.

Apply a Gloss

The next time you’re in the colorist’s chair you should request a glossing treatment in addition to the color application. A gloss will help seal your color and increase shine. In between coloring visits you can book another gloss treatment to extend the life of your color.

Wear a Hat

When summer nears redheads need to take cover. Never expose your hair to chlorinated water. Instead- opt for a sunhat and perch yourself right over there in that chair with a big pair of black sunglasses. Old Hollywood style…

Red hair is not for the faint of heart. Rarity is a fulltime job.
